One would think in this economy that the Windows/PC products would be king(s) and Dell products would be queen(s). In fact, one would almost consider it obscene that Apple has been gaining market share in this economy. Although I am a long time follower of Steve Jobs, I am definitely not an ‘Apple guy’ only. After reading this article today http://www.wral.com/business/story/6156112/ and then other recent articles about how the PC/Windows market continues to tank...... I ask myself, “Which is the better value, quality or quantity?”
Why are people choosing Apple and running from Windows? Why would Dell, who one time could not build manufacturing plants fast enough, be closing house in some States? I contend that if Windows does not hit a home run (with the bases loaded) with this Windows 7 release………they are done.........as are some of these ‘quantity’ PC generators.
Ironically, even in a sour economy (maybe more so in a sour economy) quality and service are still king. Would you have thought the more expensive product (with much higher profit margin) could do it in the “Great Recession” of the 2000’s?
What happened to Dell and Microsoft?

Why are you even comparing Dell and Apple when they both now use Intel chipsets? Since Dell doesn’t even make an operating system that leaves a stalemate at best on the hardware side. Question from me would be why did Apple quit making hardware? But that is not the subject now is it. So on to the software side of things Apple vs. Microsoft. When it comes to OS market share it is less than a 3% point shift since Oct. 2007. Right now, as of Oct.2009, it is 5.12% for Apple and 92.77% for Microsoft, after how many years in business???? Wow now that's crushing the competition. Don't get me wrong Apple has its place and it looks like that it is either simple consumer oriented web surfing or heavy graphics users. Don't fall for the I’m a Mac or I’m an PC hype. Spend your money on what you need to get the job done. If anything should happen in the way of OS market share shifting then I’m sure it would be from the Free OS market. Specifically when/if Google puts out their OS. That will be a true test of the OS market since everyone loves Google! I feel it will more than likely make both Apple and Microsoft’s heads spin along with moving a sizeable share from both. But only time will tell us the answer to that.
